About Fit 901

Real coaching. Real results. Real people.

Fit 901 is a personal training gym in Memphis, TN — not generic corporate fitness. A partnership approach to transformation, built by a coach who actually cares about your whole life.

Why we exist

We started Fit 901 because we were tired of what passes for fitness coaching — generic programs, empty promises, and coaches who never actually get to know their clients.

We believe real transformation happens when fitness, nutrition, accountability, and genuine partnership come together. Our mission is simple: help people build the confidence, energy, and health to live the life they actually want — not a temporary version of it.

From emergency response to preventing emergencies

Fit 901 was founded by Rob Yahn, a Memphis Fire Department Fire Lieutenant and Firefighter Paramedic with more than 30 years of responding to emergency medical calls. Over decades on the job he has seen the consequences of preventable health problems up close — heart disease, diabetic emergencies, obesity-related complications, and a great many crises that started with habits and choices years earlier.

His mission with Fit 901 is simple: help people in Memphis change the direction of their health before it becomes an emergency.

Rob entered the fire service in 1994 and joined the Memphis Fire Department in 1996, working most of his career downtown and midtown on some of the busiest truck companies in the country. He was promoted to Lieutenant at the Fire Training Center, where he has trained and evaluated firefighters across the department. He has been training others since the early 1990s and coaching strength and health for more than fifteen years — as a USA Weightlifting certified coach, a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, and a Krav Maga Global instructor certified in Combat/Fight and Third Party Protection in the United States, Europe and Israel.

Fit 901 was formerly CrossFit 901 — the second CrossFit affiliate in the Memphis area, and an active affiliate from 2010 until 2026. Over time it grew out of group workouts into a full strength, metabolic health and longevity program. The methodology behind those fifteen years hasn't changed: functional movement, run at an intensity scaled to the person in front of us.

That blend of emergency service, tactical and coaching experience shapes how the whole studio works: fitness should make real life easier, safer and longer — whether you're a first responder, a parent getting back into shape, or someone who has never set foot in a gym.

What to expect when you walk in

Fit 901 is a gritty warehouse training facility, built for people who want to train with purpose. It is not a commercial gym, and we would rather you know that before you drive over.

The Fit 901 training floor: an open warehouse with concrete floors, dumbbell racks, squat rigs, the week's programming written on a whiteboard along the wall, and the CrossFit 901 logo painted above it.
The floor as it actually is — no staging, no filming zone.
What you won't find
  • No mirrors lining the walls
  • No neon lighting or filming zones
  • No rows of chrome machines on fixed tracks
  • No sales floor
What you will
  • Concrete floors and open space
  • Barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, sleds — tools that get used every day
  • Chalk in the air, and music that supports the training rather than drowning it
  • Small groups and individuals, each on a plan built for them

Movements are coached, not guessed. Workouts are written with purpose, not pulled off social media. The room is serious but welcoming, and people come here to work on themselves rather than to be seen.

You do not need to be in shape to start. You need to be willing to show up consistently and put in honest work. We'll guide the rest.

We train the other 165 hours of your week

Most places will sell you a workout. Here, the workout is one piece of the plan. Real change happens in the 165 hours a week you are not in the gym — where your food, sleep, stress, schedule and mindset either support your goals or quietly work against them.

Strength & conditioning

Practical strength training and conditioning so you can lift, carry and move well in real life — built for adults who care about long-term health, not just today's workout.

Habits, nutrition & lifestyle

Habit-based nutrition and practical lifestyle coaching to improve how you eat, sleep and handle stress. Small, manageable changes you can sustain instead of extreme rules you can't.

Mindset, accountability & longevity

How you talk to yourself, how you manage your time, and the systems that keep you consistent. Check-ins and accountability that keep you progressing without burning out.

Who trains here

Fit 901 is a good fit if you are ready to take ownership of your health and want guidance that goes beyond an app or a crowded room.

Busy professionals who want strength, energy and long-term health

Entrepreneurs who need structure and accountability around training and food

Healthcare workers who see the cost of poor health daily and want to protect their own

Firefighters and emergency responders who need tactical performance and resilience

Parents who want to stay healthy and active for their kids and grandkids

Adults after sustainable weight loss and better metabolic health

People trying to avoid or manage metabolic disease through better habits

Adults who want to age stronger, stay independent, and keep doing what they love

Who this is not for

  • You want a casual place to occasionally hop on a treadmill
  • You are shopping purely on price — we are not the cheapest option in Memphis and are not trying to be
  • You want flashy equipment, mirrors and nightclub lighting
  • You want a quick fix, a shortcut, or a 30-day challenge
  • You want coaching that tells you what you want to hear instead of what you need to hear

You do not need to be in shape to start — many people arrive tired, stressed and unsure where to begin, and others have trained for years but need a better plan. What you do need is a willingness to be coached, to show up consistently, and to give honest effort. We'll scale every movement and every program to where you are now and build from there.

Real people. Real transformations.

The proof behind the partnership.

Margot, a Fit 901 client who joined at 45 and lost more than 100 pounds.

It was scary for a woman my age, a woman my size. But I was determined. So I walked in. At any age, at any size, you can walk in scared and walk out strong.

Candice, a Fit 901 client and Navy mother of three.

My anger is in check a lot more. I have so much energy — now it's my husband saying conserve energy. I'm probably a little bit closer to the person I was born to be.

A marathon sprang up on me faster than I expected — I ran it on nothing but my regular Fit 901 training. In my late 40s, I'm stronger than I've ever been.
